Charles A. Mohan, Jr. is CEO and Executive Director of the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. A driving force behind the UMDF, Chuck has helped many families cope with the crisis of mitochondrial disease. Chuck and his wife, Adrienne, lost their 15-year-old daughter, Gina, to mitochondrial disease in 1995.
The mission of the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation is to promote research and education for the diagnosis, treatment and cure of mitochondrial disorders and to provide support to affected individuals and families. Founded in 1997, the UMDF has grown into an internationally recognized non-profit organization representing mitochondrial disease patients. In the United States, the UMDF has 65 chapters, groups and ambassadors. The UMDF is the largest, non-governmental funder of research towards the cure for mitochondrial disease, having provided more than $7 million in grants to fund research that could bring us one step closer to a cure.
